Trim
I have spent a great deal of time working as a trim carpenter on a variety of projects. I have installed built-up crown mouldings, custom bookshelves and closets, and even produced custom furniture from exotic wood species. I have designed and built arches and ellipses, curved mouldings, and detailed wood accents.
If you can dream it, I can build and install it.
I'd like to highlight a few things that make my work a cut above the rest. First, I can produce all of your trim in stain grade quality. Perhaps you are accustomed to white painted trim with gobs of caulking to hide the seams and joints. There is a reason that carpenters hide their trim work with paint and caulk. It takes a great deal of skill to produce joints that look good and can simply be stained or sealed to showcase the natural beauty of the wood. After trim is installed, wood tends to move. Again, it takes skills and experience to produce work that will take into account this expected wood movement. Coped joints allow for wood movement in trim and continue to look great. These joints will not separate through seasons of dryness and high humidity. I can produce coped joints in casing, crown moulding, and other types of trim.
I use quality installation techniques.
One of my favorite techniques is the pocket hole. I use this type of wood joinery often. Using hidden screws, I preassemble trim before I install it. The screws lock the trim together so it doesn't separate a week after installation. The best thing about pocket holes is the simplicity and speed with which they can be detailed. Quality work doesn't have to take a lot of time and cost you a fortune. I will use a variety of techniques, jigs, and specialized tools to produce quick, professional trim work for your home.
I do not splice together pieces that should not be spliced.
Have you seen two small pieces of trim put together and wondered why one piece wasn't used instead? I can't help thinking that the carpenter didn't have enough trim and decided to compromise the integrity of his work rather than return to the lumberyard to get an appropriately-sized piece. I don't compromise in my work. If I need something that I don't have in order to finish your job, I will go get it. If I cut a board too short, I'll get another one rather than installing it and having the job look substandard.
I only use quality materials.
Today's construction industry standard seems to be slapping things together quickly with cheap materials. I have noticed trim is often installed unprimed. Leaving wood unprimed can cause the paint to peel or the wood to move excessively as the humidity changes. This is especially common on window and door trim. Most lumberyards carry preprimed trim for pennies more than unprimed. It's also a great idea to apply an initial coat of paint to trim before it is installed. This reduces the chance of paint spills and the need to cut in, and it leaves a more attractive finished product.
These are just a few things that set me apart from others. Whether you want to finish off a closet, install some bookshelves, or finish off some unused attic or storage space, contact me discuss your options. I can offer quality trim work at an affordable price.
